Technical Support Note
Product(s) involve : SB 16, SB 16 Advanced Signal Processing
Software(s) involve : Commercial Games Software
Third party hardware : N.A.
Subject
No sound heard when SB 16/Advanced Signal Processing is selected at MPU-401 UART
or MT-32 mode in games options.
Description
Most commercial games are written to detect MPU-401/MT-32 mode through I/O
address 330H before detecting any Sound Blaster cards. The game software will
assume that the respective Roland devices are present at port 330H, thus
issuing the commands related to the devices even though that there is no Wave
Blaster or external devices connected. In such cases, no sound is output.
Solution/Action
The following remedy actions are to be taken to correct the problem :-
1. Change the I/O address for MPU-401 form 330H to 300H.
2. Installed a Wave Blaster board or connect a Midi instrument to the Midi port
of the Sound Blaster card.
